Ibou
I was on my way to visit a friend in Harlem and transferring to the 2 train on 14th street and 7th Ave. I entered the train and that’s where I was captivated by Ibou. At the time, I did not know his name, but I said to myself, “This is a gorgeous man.” His skin tone was as perfect as anything else that God has created in this life. I asked him if I could take his picture sometime, but the language barrier made it a challenge. I then asked for his number and we began communicating via text. I am going back and forth using Google Translate to translate my text and Ibou’s text from English to French and vice versa. We agreed to meet the following day as he was leaving the city soon, and this is what we created together. What was more refreshing to me about this moment was the inspiration this moment created for me as I consider my photography and the type of light poet I want to be. Thank you, Ibou. You have reignited a flame and granted me perspective.
